Stay In The Game (U16) team win the For the Game - Spring Classic

The Stay In The Game (U16) has gotten the spring travel team season off to a roaring start by winning the championship of the For The Game - Spring Classic, held in Kenosha, WI over the past weekend.

The (U16) with several returning players from last years squad really seemed to jell quite nicely throughout the tourney.

There were several outstanding performances, however the key to the teams overall success was the consistent play of 6'2 PG, Demetrius Jackson (Milwaukee Riverside).

    Game Summary: The Stay In The Game sophomore squad got off to a great start in game 1 of the tourney with an 11-0 outburst...SG's Josh Gee (Milwaukee Riverside) and Shawn Taylor got off to a fast start with easy layups...Forwards Thomas "Tre" Kinlow (Glendale Nicolet), Derrick Landry (Milwaukee Custer) and Devonte Fowler (Milwaukee KIng) contributed athletic finishes all game long. PG's Shakil Lea (Wauwatosa East) and Demetrius Jackson (Milwaukee Riverside) distributed the ball well and provided great leadership and ball pressure.

    Game Summary: Game 2 for the Stay In The Game sophomore team was back and forth in the 1st half with the starting 5 getting in early foul trouble...F Devonte Fowler (Milwaukee King) got 2 early fouls and a quicker smaller line up was used. PGs Shakil Lea (Wauwatosa East) and Demetrius Jackson (Milwaukee Riverside) sparked the offense early with great defense and passing. Jackson scored 9 1st half points. The 2nd half was more uptempo and needed OT to decide a winner after a baseline jumpshot by SG Josh Gee (Milwaukee Riverside). The team showed tremendous poised as they knocked down key free throws in OT to secure the win and go (2 - 0) in the tournament.

    Game Summary: The Stay In The Game 16U squad dominated the boards in this game and played solid defense. Leading rebounders were Forwards Justin Newell and Devonte Fowler (Milwaukee King). WGs Shawn Taylor and Thomas "Tre" Kinlow (Glendale Nicolet) finished some great athletic plays. The team was led by PGs Demetrius Jackson (Milwaukee Riverside) and Shakil Lea (Wauwatosa East) with 11 and 8 points respectively.  Newcomer Justin Newell also contributed 8 points.

   Tre Kinlow

  Game Summary: The Stay In The Game 16U squad advanced to the championship game and faced a tough challenge against Team NLP.  The Team NLP squad had a definite size advantage but the Stay In The Game crew didn't back down...The game started with NLP jumping off to an early lead 11-2, but SITG got settled and began to take control. WG Shawn Taylor provided 2 back-to-back 3pt shots to cut into the lead followed by scores by forwards DeMario Paige and Devonte Fowler (Milwaukee King). SITG took the lead with Layup by WG Thomas "Tre" Kinlow (Glendale Nicolet) and never looked back. The team went on a 18-0 run after a tough 2-3 zone and great rebounding. The team was up by as much as 15 pts. late in the 2nd half but NLP put up a fight to cut it to 1pt. free throws and tough defense allowed the 16U to hold on for a 3point victory 49-46 to win the 2008 Spring Shootout finishing the weekend 4-0. Leading scorers were Fowler with 11pts and both Taylor and Paige with 8pts.
