Congratulations to the Stay In The Game 5th grade basketball team who went 4 - 0 over the weekend, competing down in Madison, WI at the Badger State Games, for winning the gold medal.  The team continues to demonstrate the characteristics of a well coached high school team with it's display of passing, team-work, defense, and solid fundamental play that was visible to all that watched the team play.  Coach Weathers received several comments for parents and fans (of the opposing team), on how well the team played together over the weekend.  However, the 4 - 0 weekend mark did not come without some struggle.  The team continues to display a strong will and unwillingness to get rattled in close games or when their opposition tries to get back into the game.  Again leading the way for the 5th grade team were Timothy Triplett and Davon McRae who both continue to dominate opposing teams week after week.  Triplett averaged 13 points over the weekend and McRae average 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Game #1
SITG 39
Madison - Gym Rats 16  F
Record (1 - 0)
Leading Scorers:   Timothy Triplett, Davon McRae
Game Summary: SITG jumped out of their cars after a 2 hour ride down to Madison after getting caught in traffic jam in Waukesha due to and accident and rush hour traffic in Madison.  The team arrived 5 minutes before the start of the game and impressively disposed of the Madison Gym Rats team.  The game was close for the first 5 minutes.  However, there was never any question of who had the better team.  As the SITG team dominated the boards and scored on fast break lay-ups.  Leading the team in scoring were Timothy Triplett (11pts) and Davon McRae (12 pts) and 10 rebounds.
Game #2
SITG 39
Wisconsin Storm 36  F
Record (2 - 0)
Leading Scorers:   Timothy Triplett, Davon McRae
Game Summary: The SITG team jumped out to a 15 point lead before the Wisconsin Storm put on a late rally to come back to make the game close.   With 15 seconds to go, SITG was up 6 points with the ball.  However, a turn-over and quick 3 point shot by the Storm brought the closing margin to 3 points.  Big free throws down the stretch by Timothy Triplett helped to seal the game.  It was the performance of Triplett and McRae that helped to lead the team in victory.  This was clearly a championship level game as the two best teams in the tournament battled in a very competitive and highly intense game.
Game #3
SITG 55
Waunakee Warriors 39  F
Record (3 - 0)
Leading Scorers:   Timothy Triplett, Davon McRae
Game Summary: After the close battle with the Wisconsin Storm, the SITG team came out focused and energized to play against Waunakee.  SITG led at halftime 33 - 20 and were never really challenged in the scond half.  Again it was the dymanic duo of Triplett and McRae that continued to get big baskets when ever Waunakee appeared to gain some momentum.  With the win, the SITG team qualified to play in the gold medal game against the Badger Sporting Goods team out of Madison.
Game #4   GOLD MEDAL GAME
SITG 61
Badger Sporting Goods 29  F
Record (4 - 0)
Leading Scorers:   Timothy Triplett, Davon McRae, Adam Wahid
Game Summary: This game was never close…  The SITG team jumed out 12 -1 and were never challenged.  There were balanced scoring by the team as several players scored 6 or more points in the game (Adam Wahid, Deariante Hudson, Curtis Weathers, Timothy Triplett, Davon McRae, Charles Thomas, and DeAndre Hogan).  This was truly a great team effort as the team played outstanding man - man defense and made the extra passes on offense to find the open man.  The win capped off the teams second tournament championship in a row.
