| Stay In The Game Basketball to take the court this weekend |

This weekend will be very busy for the entire Stay In The Game basketball program, as all of it's teams will swing into action. For all of the grade/middle school teams, this is their first tournament action of the season.
The 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th, and 10th grade teams will play in the Wisconsin Gator Elite's - Hardwood Classic. The games for the Hardwood Classic will be held at both South Milwaukee HS and West Allis Nathan Hale High School.
The Terry Porter Elite U17 team is travelling down to Chicago, IL this weekend to participate in the Grassroots Basketball of America's Regional Qualifier National Tournament, made up of the top 64 teams in the country.
Check back early next week for the results of all of the teams over the weekend.

The Terry Porter Elite (U17) team travelled this past weekend to Akron, OH to participate in the King Jame's All-Star Classic. The tournament featured over 300 of the top travel teams from all over the country.
The U17 team, coming off a disappointing weekend in Pittsburgh quickly rebounded this weekend by taking first in their pool with a 2- 0 record. With the first place finish, the team advanced to the Gold Division single elimination tournament of all the first place teams.

The Terry Porter Elite U16 team continues to make huge strides toward becoming one of the top travel teams in the country. The addition of guards Deveraux Ingram (Milwaukee Custer) and Jimmy Whitehead (LaCrosse Acquinas) have solidified the back court and boosted the team's ablity to score in transition and space the court to allow Silas Mills and Roy Marshall room to score.

The Terry Porter Elite U17 squad finished a very disappointing (1 -2) at the Pittsburgh Jam Fest this past weekend.
The team played very hard and was competitive in all of the games. However, the kids were over matched in two games due to size issues of our front line players.

The Stay In The Game (U16) has gotten the spring travel team season off to a roaring start by winning the championship of the For The Game - Spring Classic, held in Kenosha, WI over the past weekend.
The (U16) with several returning players from last years squad really seemed to jell quite nicely throughout the tourney.
There were several outstanding performances, however the key to the teams overall success was the consistent play of 6'2 PG, Demetrius Jackson (Milwaukee Riverside).

The Stay In The Game (U15) team began their spring travel team season by competing in the Hoops For the Game - Spring Classic, held in Kenosha, WI over this past weekend.
The tournament proved to be a huge success for the newly formed first year team, as they advanced all the way to the semi-final game before losing to Illinois Red Raiders 41 - 34.
There were several outstanding performer's over the weekend. However, two young men really stood out - 6'4 PF D'Angelo Jones (Milwaukee Custer) and 6'6 WG Garrett Wenzelberger (Milwaukee Lutheran).

The Milwaukee North Division Blue Devils were able to keep their state championship aspirations alive after defeating Shorewood High School by the score of 59 - 52.
Milwaukee North was lead by Steve Ivory Jr who scored a game high 23 points on 7 - 14 shooting from the field, and 9 - 12 from the free throw line.
The win has Milwaukee North (10 - 11) two games away from reaching the Wisconsin state basketball tournament. The Blue Devils will face Brown Deer HS at 7pm on Friday night at Waukesha South high school.

The Milwaukee Washington Purgolders won their opening round game in the Wisconsin State Boys basketball tournament on Saturday, by defeating Milwaukee South Division by the score of 61 - 47.
The Purgolders were lead by 6'3 senior guard DeMarcus Phillips who scored a game high 22 points. Phillips was 6 - 16 from the field, 1 - 4 from the 3 point line and 7 - 8 from the free throw line. The win pushes the Purgolders record to a perfect 21 - 0.

The Milwaukee Lutheran Red Knights ran into a very tough second round WIAA state tournament opponent, Brown Deer HS, co-champions of the Woodland conference. The game was close at half time, however Brown Deer outscored the Red Knights in the 3rd, 22 - 12 to break the game open.
Leading the way again for the Red Knights was 6-0 senior guard Andrew Ferry, who scored a game high 26 points, connecting on 4 - 3 point field goals in the contest.

Andrew Ferry and the Milwaukee Lutheran Knights had a relatively easy first round win in the WIAA boys state basketball tournament, by defeating Milwaukee Lifelong Learning Academy by the score of 70 - 47.
Ferry lead the way for the Red Knights, connecting on 5 - 3 point field goal attempts and finished with a game high 23 points.

The Milwaukee Washington Purgolders played host to Milwaukee Riverside University High School in a Tuesday night City Conference match-up. The Purgolder's put their unbeaten record on the line and at the end of the night still remained undefeated after pulling out a 73 - 62 win against the Tigers. The win pushed the Purgolder's record to 16 - 0.
Leading the way for Milwaukee Washington was their 6'3 senior WG, DeMarcus Phillips who scored a game high 26 points in the contest. Phillips was 5 - 13 from the field, 4 - 9 from the 3 point line, and a perfect 5 - 5 from the foul line.
Riverside was led by 5'11 senior PG, Rufus Phillips (no relation) who scored 18 points for the Tigers on 3 - 9 shooting from the field, 3 - 7 from the 3 point line, and 3 - 4 from the foul line.

The Whitefish Bay Dominican Knights went on the road Saturday night for a Midwest Classic conference game against Brookfield Academy. The Knights won the contest by the score of 73 - 60 largely in part due to the play of 5'11 senior Marques Morgan.
Morgan scored 16 points on 2 - 4 shooting from the field and 3 - 5 shooting from the 3 point line to help secure the victory for the Knights.

The Milwaukee Washington Purgolders, fresh off a conference victory against Milwaukee North Division the previous night, put their 14 game winning streak on the line against the Glendale Nicolet Knights in a non conference game on Saturday. The Knights kept the game very competitive thru out until Washington sealed the victory with some clutch plays down the stretch to win the contest 58 - 53.
Leading the way for the Purgolders was their stand-out 6'3 senior WG DeMarcus Phillips who scored 16 points on 5 - 12 shooting from the field, 1 - 5 shooting from the 3 point line, and 3 - 4 from the foul line.
The play of 6'2 junior Antone Byrd was significant in the contest. Byrd scored 15 points on 5 - 9 shooting from the field and was a perfect 5 - 5 from the free throw line.

The Brookfield Academy boys basketball team played a non-conference game on Friday night on the road against Faith Christian. Brookfield Academy jumped all over Faith Christian in the first quarter by scoring 23 points in route to a 55 - 47 victory.
Leading the way for BFA was 6'4 standout WG Marquis Jordan who scored 15 points on 3 - 8 shooting from the field and 3 - 6 shooting from the 3 point line. In addition, Jordan hauled down 7 rebounds, to go along with 3 assists and 3 steals.

The game was competitive for 3 quarters, however it was the Vikings who out scored the Tigers 14 - 6 in the 3rd quarter to help cruise to a 70 - 58 win.
Leading the way for Riverside was 6'0 senior PG, Rufus Phillips, who poured in a game high 22 points on 6 - 15 shooting from the field, 3 - 5 shooting from the 3 point line, and was 1 - 1 from the foul line. In addition, Phillips had 3 steals while dishing out 5 assists in the game.

Milwaukee Washington went on the road Friday night to put their unbeaten winning streak on the line against Milwaukee North Division in a Milwaukee City Conference match up. The game was never really close or in doubt as Washington won the game 73 - 57 to extend their undefeated winning streak to 14 games straight.
Leading the way for Milwaukee Washington were DeMarcus Phillips and Antone Byrd. Phillips scored a game high 22 points, shooting 8 - 15 from the field, 2 - 5 from the 3 point line, while dishing out 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals.
Byrd contributed 14 points in the contest on 5 - 11 shooting from the field, and 4 - 4 shooting from the free throw line.

Milwaukee Washington HS the no#1 ranked Division 1 boys high school basketball in Wisconsin took their undefeated record and team out of state, this time to the windy city of Chicago to participate in the Martin Luther King Jr - Dream Classic, held at Whitney Young high school against Chicago Von Stueben.
The Purgolders were again victorious, defeating Chicago Von Stueben by the score of 48 - 45 to remain unbeaten this year and pushing their record to 13 - 0. Leading the way for Washington was DeMarcus Phillips, who now gets my vote for Mr Basketball in the state of Wisconsin.
Phillips was sensational as usual, scoring 24 of the Purgolder's 48 points on 8 - 18 shooting from the field, 1 - 5 from the 3 point line, and 5 - 6 from the foul line. In addition, Phillips grabbed 8 rebounds and dished out 6 assists in the contest against a Chicago team that featured 2/3 Division I prospects.

Whitefish Bay Dominican HS went on to defeat Whitefish Bay HS at the Martin Luther King Day Tournament by the score of 65 - 42.
Dominican is currently ranked #1 among Division 3 schools with a record of 11 - 1 was lead by 5'11 senior shooting guard Marquis Morgan. Morgan led the the Knights with 16 points on 5 - 8 shooting from the 3 point line, and was 1 -1 from the foul line.

Leading the way for the Tigers was 6'0 senior point guard, Rufus Phillips who was the game's leading scorer. Phillips scored 33 points on 5 - 13 shooting from the field, 7 - 10 from the 3 point line, and 2 - 4 from the foul line.

Leading the way for Brookfield Academy was Marquis Jordan. The 6'5 sophomore WG tied a career high with 20 points on 10 - 14 shooting from the field. In addition, Jordan hauled down 6 rebounds and dished out 4 assists in the contest.

Brookfield East HS ran into a buzz saw on Saturday night as they played against the host, West Allis Central in a Greater Metro Conference match-up, losing 57 - 40.
Scoring points again appears to be the problem for Brookfield East. Leading the way for East was Stay In The Game's 6'4 senior foward, Brian Condon who was the games leading scorer with 19 points, on 7 - 10 shooting from the field and 5 -6 shooting from the free throw line. In addition, Brian hauled down 8 rebounds and had 2 blocked shots in the game.

Milwaukee Washington High School had very little trouble on Thursday night defeating Milwaukee Madison in a City Conference match-up. The undefeated Purgolder's cruised past the Knights by the score of 78 - 48 at Washington HS.
Again leading the way for the Purgolders is arguably the state's no#1 player in DeMarcus Phillips who finished with 28 points on 10 - 14 shooting from the field, 2 - 5 from the 3 point line, and 2 -2 from the foul line, while dishing out 10 assists to go along with 6 rebounds.

Condon was 6 - 10 from the field, and 4 - 5 from the free throw line, while hauling in 8 rebounds.
Kursol was 6 - 9 from the field, and 2 - 4 from the free throw line, while hauling in 9 rebounds and had 5 blocked shots in the contest.

Steve Ivory Jr was a man among men in a non-conference match up on Tuesday night between Milwaukee North and Northwest HS.
Ivory scored a career high 32 points in a losing effort as North Divsion was defeated by Milwaukee Northwest HS by the score of 64 - 50. Ivory played the entire game, going 8 - 13 from the field, 3 - 6 from the 3 point line, and was 7 - 11 from the foul line. In addition, he pulled down 10 rebounds, had 2 blocked shots and 3 assists.
On the season, Ivory is currently averaging 16 points per game.

The Milwaukee Washington Purgolders went into a hostile environment on Tuesday night, playing the only other undefeated team in the Milwaukee City Conference Milwaukee King.
The Purgolders behind their super senior - 6'3 DeMarcus Phillips came out of the game with a very impressive 73 - 66 win at Milwaukee King. Phillips was again unstoppable in the game, scoring 26 points on 5 -10 from the field, 3 - 6 from the 3 point line, and 7 - 9 from the foul line.
Also making significant contributions were 6'2 junior wing guard Antone Byrd who finished with 16 points by going 5 - 10 from the field, while shooting a blistering 6 - 7 from the foul line. And 6'8 senior center, Patrick Davis who again controlled the lane finishing with 10 blocked shots, 12 rebounds and 7 points.

In a non-conference match-up on Saturday night, the Milwaukee Riverside Tigers were able to defeat Wimot by the score of 62 - 50.
The Riverside Tigers were led by 5'11 senior point guard, Rufus Phillips, who was the game's leading scorer with 18 points. Phillips was very sharp in the game, going 4 -6 from the field, 2 - 4 from the 3 point line, and 4 - 4 from the foul line, in addition to dishing out 6 assists along with 4 rebounds.
Phillips is having a great senior season, averaging 13 points per game for the Tigers.

In a Noth Shore conference match-up, Andrew Ferry scored 24 points for Milwaukee Lutheran in a 1 point loss to Whitefish Bay high school by the score of 45 - 44.
Ferry a 6'0 senior for Milwaukee Lutheran continues to torch the nets for the Red Knights, accounting for over half of his teams points in the game. Ferry was on fire during the game, going 3 - 4 from the field, 6 - 8 from the 3 point line, along with 4 assists 3 rebounds and 2 steals.
On the season, Ferry is currently ranked #15 in the area in scoring with an average of 19.2 points per game.

Steve Ivory Jr, a 6'6 senior foward at Milwaukee North Division scored 19 points in a loss against Milwaukee Madison on Friday night in a Milwaukee City Conference match up at Madison High School by the score of 73 - 41.
Ivory was the lone bright spot for the Blue Devils, scoring his 19 points on 4 - 8 shots from the field, 1 -3 from the 3 point line, and a perfect 8 - 8 from the foul line.
Ivory is currently averaging 14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals per game.

Brian Condon, a 6'5 senior foward at Brookfield East scored 12 points to lead the Spartans in an upset victory over Menomonee Falls HS, 43 - 41 in a Greater Metro Conference match up.
Condon's performance was keyed by several key defensive stops at the end of the game to preserve the victory.
6'8 senior center Ryan Kursol chipped in with 8 points.

Marquis Jordan helped to lead Brookfield Academy to their first conference win against Heritage Christian in a Midwest Classic conference match-up by the score of 68 - 56.
Jordan, a 6'4 sophomore wing guard scored 20 points on 10 -13 shooting from the field, pulling down 5 rebounds, with 3 assists in the game.

For almost the entire game, it looked as if the Milwaukee Washington Purgolder's undefeated season was about to come to an end against Milwaukee Custer on Wednesday night in a tough City Conference match-up.
Milwaukee Custer, looking to slow down the #3 player in the state, DeMarcus Phillips employed an effective box in one defensive strategy to slow down the super senior. The strategy did work in slowing down Phillips from hitting his 22 point per game scoring average, but allowed for other Purgolders such as Antone Byrd and Patrick Davis to help shoulder the load.
The 3 Stay In The Game players came up big in the victory. Despite the box in one, Phillips led all scorers with 16 points. Antone Byrd chipped in with 12 points. However, it was Patrick Davis (6'8 senior center) who scored 10 points, shooting 5 - 5 from the field, along with 12 rebounds and 8 block shots that made the biggest impact on the game.
Davis made it tough for Milwaukee Custer players to drive the lane. He blocked shots. He shut down Custer's top post player - 6'7 soph Calvin Godfrey, shutting him down to only 4 points.

Milwaukee Lutheran guard Andrew Ferry scored a game high 30 points in the North Shore conference match up against Glendale Nicolet. However, it wasn't enough and the Red Knights were beaten 70 -60.
The 6'0 senior guard was on fire in the conference match up, connecting on 11 - 17 field goals, 5 -7 3 point field goals, and was 3 - 3 from the foul line. All while dishing out 6 assists, 3 steals and 5 rebounds.
Ferry, despite his teams 5 - 4 record, continues to be one of the top scorers in the area with an average of 18 points per game.

Rufus Phillips scored 24 points along with 5 assists, 3 steals, and 4 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Riverside Tigers lost convincingly 73 -57 in a city conference match up against Milwaukee Pulaski.
Phillips shot 6 - 10 from the field, 2 - 5 from the 3 point line, and was 6 - 8 from the foul line. The 6'0 PG is quietly having a great season, currently averaging 15 points a game for the Tigers.

Steve Ivory Jr continues to try to will the Milwaukee North Division Blue Devils to victory. In a tough city conference battle the Blue Devils came up short in a 64 - 60 loss to Milwaukee Pulaski.
The 6-6 Ivory scored a game high 21 points and also had 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. Ivory was 4 - 7 from the field, 2 - 3 from the 3 point line, and 7 - 10 from the foul line.

Milwaukee Washington (8 - 0 overall and 3 - 0 City Conference) continues its run for a perfect season by upending Milwaukee Bradley Tech 62 - 46.
DeMarcus Phillips, again was stellar, scoring 21 points while leading a big 4th quarter run in which Washington outscored Milwaukee Tech 23 - 18.
Phillips was 5 - 10 from the field, and 11 - 14 from the free throw line. As a team Milwaukee Washington, the state's no#1 Division 1 team made 29 - 45 free throws.

Milwaukee Washington HS continued their dominance as the Purgolders routed Wimot HS by the score of 75 - 31. The game was fairly close in the first 2 quarters, until the Purgolders turned things up on the defensive end. Wimot scored a mere 4 points in the 3rd quarter and 5 points in the 4th. While Washington errupted for 26 in the 3rd which really blew the game wide open.
Again leading the way was DeMarcus Phillips. Phillips scored a game high 17 points.

The non-conference match up between Milwaukee Washington and Brookfield Central had the feel of a March match up. However, it was the Washington Purgolders duo of Antone Byrd and DeMarcus Phillips that were the difference in the game.
Byrd, a 6-2 junior scored 20 points in the game, going 7 - 10 from the field and 2 - 4 from the 3pt line.
Phillips, a 6-3 senior also scored 20 points, going 6 - 10 from the field, 1 - 3 from the 3 point line, and 5 - 6 from the free throw line.
The victory pulled the Purgolders to a perfect 6 - 0 and the no#1 ranking in the state of Wisconsin.

In a city conference high scoring affair, Steve Ivory Jr and the Milwaukee North Division Blue Devils were able to outlast Johnny Lacy and the Milwaukee Bay View Redcats by the score of 87 - 86.
Ivory finished the game with 25 points, by shooting 9 - 12 from the field, and 7 - 11 from the free throw line. In addition, Ivory hauled down 10 rebounds, had 3 blocks and 2 steals in the game.
Johnny Lacy led Bay View with 47 points.

Andrew Ferry was on top of his game against Mequon Homestead. The 6'1 senior guard scored a game high 17 points, as he led Milwaukee Lutheran to a 61 - 54 win against the Highlanders.
Ferry shot the ball very well from the floor, going 3 - 6 from the field, 2 - 5 from the 3pt line, and 5 - 5 from the free throw line. Andrew dished out 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 rebounds in the upset win.

DeMarcus Phillips continues to torch all Milwaukee City conference opponents in leading the no#1 team in the state, Milwaukee Washington in a game against Milwaukee Pulaski by the score of 81 - 60.
The 6'3 senior guard Phillips is argurably the best player in the state of Wisconsin was unstoppable in the game, going for 32 points, while shooting 13 -16 from the field, 1 - 2 from the 3pt line, and 4 - 4 from the foul line. In addition, Phillips dished out 8 assists while grabbing 6 rebounds.

Steve Ivory Jr tried to lead Milwaukee North Division past city conference rival Milwaukee Bradley Tech. However, his 19 point effort was not enough, and the Blue Devils fell to the Tech Trojans 62 - 53.
Ivory played an outstanding game, going 7 - 10 from the field and 5-8 from the free throw line, while grabbing a game high 10 rebounds. However, the game was decide early in the second quarter where Milwaukee Bradley Tech outscored Milwaukee North 17 - 8.

In one of the biggest games of the young prep basketball season, Milwaukee Washington was able to upset the no#1 team in the state, and last year's state runner-ups, Milwaukee Vincent by the score of 45 -41.
The game featured several lead changes, but the difference in the game was the play of Milwaukee Washington junior gurad, Antone Byrd. Byrd lead the Purgolders with 15 points. However, none were more crucial than the last 4 free throws he made down the stretch to seal the victory for Washington.

In a non-conference show down between high school basketball teams from Milwaukee and Madison, Corvonn Gaines was up for the challenge. However, his Madison West teammates were not as they were beaten by the no#1 ranked team in the state, Milwaukee Vincent by the score of 83 - 59. The Vincent Vikings jumped out to a 23 -8 first quarter lead and never were challenged for the rest of the game.
Gaines played extremely well and finished with 19 points.

Ferry and the Milwaukee Lutheran Knights were competing down in a tournament in Orlando, FL, winning their first game, 74 - 51 over St Mary Prep.
Ferry connected on 3 deep 3 pointers in the game while on his way to scoring 21 points and game's leading scorer.

Morgan had an exceptional floor game offensively, defensively, and shot the ball exceptional well, connecting on 4 - 3 point field goals.

This tournament will feature 20 of the best 5th grade teams from Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Missouri, and Wisconsin. Last year, the team participated in this tournament as 4th graders and finished 3rd. Congratulations to the team as the kids had to win 4 games in a row all on the same day to capture the title. Leading the way in the championship game was Davon McRae (14 pts) and Timothy Triplett (13 pts) respectively. |

The U11 team will hit the road again this weekend to participate in the Cage Classic National Qualifier for Boys 5th grade teams. The U11 team will be attempting to qualify to compete in a national tournament for the first time this year after a strong performance last weekend in the NAYB tournament held at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). Over the last couple of weeks, the team has been competing against many of the top 6th grade team in southeastern Wisconsin to prepare for the Cage Classic.
