Stay In The Game is in a cooperative partnership with Concordia University and Sherman Park Lutheran Church to offer a supplemental literacy and basketball skill development program for grade and middle school students.

The purpose of this supplemental reading program is an effort to get all of our students reading at a college level by the time they enter the 9th grade.  The goals of the program are for all students to achieve fluent independent reading, comprehension, concentration and retention skills, and increase their vocabulary.  Lastly we are trying to take a proactive approach to closing the achievement gap of Wisconsin students with the rest of the country in standardized test achievement scores.

All of the curriculum and tutoring will be administered by student teachers from Concordia University’s School of Education.  The program will be lead by Steve Gerner, who reports directly to the Dean of the School of Education.  In addition to the program director, there will be 2/3 additional Concordia University student-teachers on site to work with our students in small groups of 5/6.

The program will consist of two reading sessions per week (Wednesday and Thursday) from 4:15pm to 5:00pm, immediately followed by a 1 hour basketball instructional camp from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.  The location for the sessions will be at Sherman Park Lutheran School, located at 2703 N Sherman Blvd.
